Just realized the tile work in that new coffee shop downtown uses a pattern I've never seen before.

I was grabbing a coffee at Brew & Bean on Main Street and noticed their floor uses a herringbone layout with 4x12 planks, but the grout lines are a dark charcoal that makes the pattern really pop, so I'm curious if anyone has installed something similar and what the prep was like for such a tight joint.

Wow, dark grout needs super clean tile edges.

Oh man, @amyh40, you're not kidding. I learned that the hard way redoing my own bathroom. I mean, I thought I wiped the edges clean, but with that dark grout every little smudge shows up like a neon sign. Had to go back with a tiny brush and some vinegar, took forever. Maybe it's just me but I'll stick with light grout from now on.

Ugh, @johnson.spencer, you're totally right. It's not just the smudges. Think about dust or even soap scum building up over time. On dark grout, that gunk looks like a weird, chalky film. You end up scrubbing it constantly just to keep it looking decent. Light grout hides that daily wear way better. Makes the cleaning way less of a headache.

Yeah, that "took forever" part is the real truth. Dark grout is a total pain like that.
