Tape trick for keeping transitions from sliding during glue up

I was fighting with a T molding in a kitchen remodel last week, the thing kept creeping out of line while the adhesive set. I tried weights and shims but nothing held it. Finally I grabbed some painters tape, pulled it tight across the transition onto the subfloor on both sides, and it locked it dead straight until the glue dried. Worked way better than any heavy object I've stacked, and I didn't have to babysit it. Anyone else use tape for this or do you have a better way to hold those long pieces?

Yeah the tape trick works great, I do the same thing with a few extra strips crisscrossed when the glue is extra grabby.

Have you tried taping it to the base before the glue even goes on? I had a long piece of vinyl stair nosing that kept sliding every time I looked away. I ran two long strips of tape down the whole length, pulled tight at both ends, then hit it with a third strip right in the middle for extra hold. It stayed put through the whole dry time with zero babysitting. Way better than stacking paint cans on it, that's for sure.
