Wasted $300 on a fancy moisture meter that barely works
Ngl I bought a high end pinless meter last year thinking it'd save me time. Took it on a job in Portland and the readings were all over the place compared to my old pin type. Anyone else have luck with a specific brand for checking slab moisture before glue down?

Funny how the expensive stuff usually ends up being worse than the basic old tool you already had. I noticed this pattern with pretty much everything in trades these days - the more bells and whistles a tool has, the more ways it can mess up. The guy who designed it probably never even used one on a real job. You go back to the simple pin meter that just works because it's been tested for years in actual wet concrete. What model did you end up using as your backup?

Makes me think of my old pickup truck. Had this '94 F150 with manual windows, no AC. That thing ran like a champ for twenty years. Sold it to some kid and it's still going. Meanwhile my buddy's brand new truck with all the screens and sensors spent more time at the dealer's shop than on the road. That pin meter you mentioned is exactly that. No Bluetooth, no app, no firmware updates. Just two pins and a button. That's all you need when you're standing in mud trying to get a reading before the concrete sets.
