Watched my uncle pull up 20 year old oak in Lincoln and the staples barely fought him
Last month I helped my uncle tear out oak flooring in his Lincoln house that he put down himself back in 2004. I showed up with my big demo bar expecting a fight, but those 2 inch staples popped out with barely any prying on most boards. He had used a $30 manual stapler from the 90s and never had a single squeak in 20 years, while I have been blaming my tools for callbacks on newer builds. So now I am wondering if the problem was never the wood or the staples, but how fast everyone including me rushes the nailing pattern. Any of you old timers still run a manual stapler on purpose, or is that just nostalgia talking?

What! A thirty dollar stapler from the nineties outlasting everything we buy now is wild to me. Two inch staples popping out that easy after twenty years means he sank every one of them dead straight and tight, and that only happens when a guy takes his time on each board. My jaw honestly dropped a little reading that. Half the crews I know are racing the clock so hard they are practically bouncing across the floor, and then we all act shocked when things loosen up down the road. Slow hands and a cheap tool beat fast hands and a fancy one more often than anybody wants to admit.
