Wrote off self leveling compound for years until a 40 year old slab in Boise proved me dead wrong
I always figured self leveler was a crutch for guys who could not trowel, so I kept feathering patches by hand on every wavy slab that came my way. Last month a 900 sq ft basement pour in Boise was off by almost an inch across the room and my usual thinset skim was not cutting it, so I finally poured a batch and the floor came out dead flat in an afternoon. Has anyone else held out on a product for no real reason and then ate their words on a job?

That Boise slab sounds like my uncle's cabin floor up in McCall. He fought leveler for two decades, called it watered down concrete. Then a 600 sq ft shop pad had a 3/4 inch dip from the door to the back wall. He poured and shut up about it real quick. Sometimes the old way just costs you more time than it saves.
