My carnations went from wilting in 3 days to lasting 10 after one simple change

I switched from tap water to distilled water with a little sugar and lemon juice about 2 months ago after reading it on a wholesaler's blog, and the difference in vase life is crazy. Before, I was lucky to get 4 days out of a bundle before they drooped, but now they stand tall for over a week. Has anyone else tried adjusting their water chemistry for specific flowers like carnations or daisies?

and the thing nobody talks about is how the mineral buildup in tap water actually blocks the stems from drinking. distilled water strips that away so the flowers can take up the sugar and acid mix way better. i've been doing this with my peonies too and it's wild how much longer they hold up when you strip the water down first.

oh man, that makes so much sense. i had a bouquet of tulips that just wilted in three days and i was so mad about it. i bet it was the minerals in my tap water doing that. i'm definitely trying distilled water next time i get cut flowers.

Bet my hydrangeas would even forgive me for overwatering them with that trick.
