Lost a whole batch of castings to a sand inclusion I didn't see

Was running a job for some pump housings at the shop in Akron last Thursday and must have missed a spot in the mold prep... ended up with inclusions in 12 of the 18 castings. Has anyone else dealt with that sinking feeling when you break open the sprue and see the porosity?

That sand inclusion sneaks up on you every time...

Saw a guy on YouTube who had to rebuild his whole casting from that stuff.

Is it really that big of a deal? I have seen that stuff happen before and most of the time it just brushes off with a quick wipe. People get worked up over the smallest things these days, like it is the end of the world or something. Nine times out of ten it is just a little dust that settled wrong, not some major catastrophe. Maybe we should save our worry for something that actually matters.
