Vent: Guy at the supply house told me I was holding my torch wrong after 12 years in the trade
I mean maybe it's just me but I've been doing this since I was 19. Old timer at B&R Industrial Supply last Wednesday watched me pick up a Harris torch and goes 'you're gonna burn your hand off holding it like that'. Didn't even know the guy. I just said thanks and walked out but it stuck with me all day. Anyone else get unsolicited advice from strangers at the counter?

Man that's annoying. I had a guy at the counter tell me my technique on a pipe threader was wrong after I'd been doing it for like 8 years. I just nodded and walked away but it bugged me the rest of the day too. What finally made me chill about it was realizing some old timers just wanna feel useful or pass on what tiny bit they think they know. You're the one getting the work done, not him.

Yeah, that tracks. Some people just can't help themselves.

Figured the guy was probably just trying to be helpful but it's not like you're gonna set yourself on fire after 12 years. I had a neighbor once watch me change my oil and told me I was gonna strip the drain plug. Buddy I've been doing this since high school, you're the one who uses a breaker bar on everything. Some people just can't stand seeing someone do things different than them.
