Appreciation post: Adding a kill fee clause saved me $500 last month
I used to skip kill fees in my contracts because I thought they'd scare off clients. Then a client backed out after I'd done 15 hours of research on a project they suddenly canceled. I added a 25% kill fee to my next contract and a different client paid me $500 when they pulled out last week. Has anyone else had luck with kill fees for partial work done?

Oh man, kill fees are the unsung heroes of freelancing (I learned that the hard way too). I had a client ghost me after I'd already bought a bunch of stock photos for their blog, so now I always have a line in my contract for that stuff.
