Shoutout to the paralegal who caught my contract mistake

Last week I hired a freelance paralegal for $75 to review a service agreement I was about to sign with a new client. She spotted a clause about arbitration fees that would have cost me $300 out of pocket if things went south. I almost skipped the review to save money (dumb move on my part). Has anyone else had a contract detail that a cheap legal check caught before it bit you?

$300 out of pocket for arbitration fees is annoying but not exactly a disaster. I respect your hustle getting a bargain paralegal for $75, but I think you overpaid for what you got. Most standard service agreements spell out arbitration costs upfront. A careful read yourself would have caught that clause in 10 minutes for free. Paralegals are useful for complex stuff, but a simple fee split like that is basic due diligence. You might have saved $75 by just slowing down and reading the whole contract before signing.

Man that $75 could have been a nice dinner out instead of a lesson in reading fine print. It sucks when you think you're being smart by hiring help and it still backfires. Hope the next contract you come across treats you better.
