The client who rewrote my contract mid-project

Had a freelance contract gig last October for a small startup in Austin, Texas. Everything was fine for two weeks, then the founder sent me an email saying he'd 'adjusted' my payment terms without asking. He cut my rate from $75 an hour to $50 and added unlimited revisions. I had to walk away from $1,200 in work already done. Has anyone else had a client try to unilaterally change your agreement while you were in the middle of a project?

Actually that's breach of contract, not just rude behavior.

Oh "breach of contract" is exactly right. I had a landlord try to pull that same thing on me, said I owed a fee for having guests stay over even though my lease clearly didn't say anything about that. I had to pull out the old lease and highlight the exact line where it said nothing about guest limits. People think they can just make up rules as they go and call it "standard policy." It's not. It's them breaking what they agreed to.

gonna play devil's advocate here but why not just ask the landlord first before moving in? i mean yeah the lease says nothing about guest limits but a lot of times they have a reason for being strict, especially if you're in a building with shared laundry or parking spots. i had a friend who moved into a place that said nothing about pets but then found out the hard way there were three other dogs in the building and the hallways always smelled like dog pee. sometimes the "made up rules" are just them trying to avoid problems theyve seen before, even if they write it bad.
