A client's offhand comment about my invoice format made me change my whole system
I was on a call with a long-term client in Austin yesterday, and after we wrapped up the project, she said, 'Hey, just so you know, your invoices are the easiest ones my bookkeeper gets.' She explained that my clear line items and separate file for receipts saved her team hours each month. I'd always just used the default template from my billing software, thinking it was fine. That one sentence made me realize the small, professional touches I add for clients (like clean paperwork) are just as important as the actual work I deliver. Anyone else have a simple tweak that clients really appreciated?

Why don't more freelancers get this?

I started charging 50% upfront and my late payments dropped to zero. Most freelancers are scared to ask for money first.

Totally agree. It also just filters out the bad clients who were never going to pay on time anyway.
