Update: That house on Maple Street in my town went from 'no way' to 'sold' in 72 hours
I was showing a client a different property last week and we drove past 123 Maple, which had been sitting empty for almost a year. The owner finally hired a freelance stager who came in and basically just decluttered and painted the kitchen cabinets white. The listing went live on a Tuesday, and by Friday it had three offers over asking. It was wild to see such a simple, cheap fix make that big of a difference. Anyone else had a listing turn around that fast after a small change?

Eating up most of the profit" seems like a stretch for painting some cabinets. That small cost probably added tens of thousands to the sale price, so the seller came out way ahead. It's one of the best returns you can get.

Noticed the same thing with my old car before I sold it. Spent a weekend giving it a deep clean and fixing a broken cup holder, stuff I'd lived with for years. The first person who came to look at it bought it for my asking price. People really do judge a book by its cover, even with big stuff like houses.
