Update: A client in Austin told me last week their 'SEO guy' was just posting blog comments for backlinks. Three years ago, that might have worked. | Freelance Seo Hub - Freelance Forum - The Community for Independent Professionals
Friend of mine paid some SEO guy last year and got crickets from it. Entire blog comment section on their site just looked sad, like nobody wanted to be there.
That SEO guy must have a time machine set to 2011. Sam_cooper is right, Google started punishing that years ago. It's not even a lazy plan anymore, it's an actively harmful one. Paying someone to hurt your site's standing is a wild business move. You'd get better results just leaving the money on a park bench. At least then someone might buy a coffee and think nice thoughts about the brand.
Remember when Google started cracking down on that stuff years ago. What kind of SEO "expert" still thinks blog comment spam is a good plan in 2024. It feels like they're just taking money for doing nothing useful.
