Got laughed out of a co-working space in Austin for using spreadsheets

Last Tuesday I walked into this trendy co-working spot downtown called The Hive with my laptop, ready to crank out some project bids. Some guy in a hoodie sees me pull up Excel and literally snorts, says 'you know there's software for that, right?' It was such a dumb moment but it made me realize how much freelancers judge each other for their tools. I still use spreadsheets for everything because they work for me, but now I just keep my head down and work at home. Has anyone else gotten weird looks for sticking with a simple system?

Just last month I was at a coffee shop in Denver and some startup kid laughed when he saw me using a paper ledger for my mileage tracking. I do all my invoices in Excel too, 47 rows of raw numbers that I've been using since 2019. People act like you're coding in cave drawings if you aren't using some shiny app that costs 30 bucks a month. Honestly I get more done in an hour with my spreadsheets than half these people do bouncing between five different tools.

Had a similar thing happen at my dentist's office last week. The receptionist gave me this look when I pulled out my little notepad to jot down my next appointment. She kept trying to get me to download their app. I'm like, lady, I got a drawer full of these notebooks at home dating back to 2016. Found one the other day with my cat's vet visits from three years ago. Works fine for me.
