Finally found a better way to hang my extension ladder after 3 falls

I used to just lean my 24-foot ladder against the wall in the corner, and it fell over on my car twice and nearly hit my kid once. Last month I installed two simple J-hooks from Home Depot for about $12 total, and now it hangs flat on the ceiling out of the way. Has anyone else tried mounting ladders horizontally or do you have a different system that works better?

J-hooks on the ceiling... that's interesting but how do you actually get the ladder up there without it smacking into something? I tried the whole horizontal mount thing in my garage a while back and the 24-footer was a total pain to wrestle into position by myself. Seems like you need at least two people to not bash drywall or knock over stuff. Did you anchor into studs or just use drywall anchors with those J-hooks?

J-hooks on the ceiling sound like a disaster waiting to happen for a 24-footer. You really want to wrestle that thing up over your head and hope it doesn't swing sideways into a car or a window while you're trying to seat it? My neighbor did the same thing and it took him 20 minutes of cussing and near misses. Ended up just using wall-mounted vertical tracks from a hardware store, slides up and down with a rope pulley, way easier to handle solo. Plus you can anchor those into studs without guessing where they hit.
