Choosing ethics over ownership with a creek bed fossil

I was checking out a creek on a buddy's land and saw a cool fossil in the bank. My first thought was to grab it for my collection, but that felt sneaky since it wasn't my property. We called up a local college geology department, and they were excited to come take a look. Letting them handle it feels like a win for doing the right thing. Have you ever had to make a call like that with a find?

Seriously? It's just a rock...

Nah but that "just a rock" thing is the whole problem. People see something they don't get and instantly write it off. Happens with art, music, other people's hobbies, all of it. It's like a reflex to call something basic instead of asking why it might matter. That mindset just makes the world more boring.

Your story made me realize it's not just a rock.
