Got called out for my old way of cutting thick glass

I was on a job in Tacoma last month cutting some half-inch plate. An older guy I was working with said, 'You're pushing too hard on that cutter, you'll get a bad break.' He showed me how to use lighter, steady pressure and let the score do the work. I tried it his way on the next piece and the break was way cleaner, no chips. Has anyone else had to unlearn a bad habit like that?

Ever try to cut glass while basically leaning your whole body weight into it like you're trying to start a stubborn lawnmower? That was me for years. Felt like I had to fight the stuff. Turns out I was just fighting myself and making a ton of extra work.

Oh man, that hits home. I used to press down so hard with my glass cutter I'm shocked I didn't just snap the wheel off. Felt like I was trying to carve my initials into a brick. @oscarb16, my other big mistake was going back over the same score line five times like I was shading in a drawing. Just made a messy, crushed-up edge that never broke clean. All that force and it still wouldn't run right. Total waste of energy.

What other bad habits did he point out?
