Every home office needs a plant is the biggest lie in this community

I keep seeing posts where people swear their monstera or snake plant made their workspace 10x more productive. Tried it for 3 months in my Denver apartment and all I got was gnats and dirt on my desk mat. My setup ran better when I just cleared the clutter and added a $20 task lamp from Target instead. Am I the only one who thinks plants are more hassle than help in a small home office?

Had a buddy who tried the whole desk plant thing in his tiny apartment. Bought a fern because someone online said it was "impossible to kill." Two weeks later he was posting on Nextdoor asking if anyone wanted a fern because it kept dropping leaves on his keyboard and he found a spider in the soil. He replaced it with a $8 plastic succulent from IKEA and said his workspace has never been cleaner. Honestly I think half these plant posts are just people trying to justify the $50 they dropped on a pot and some dirt.

Right on, @quinnperry. In my experience, ferns are drama queens for sure; a snake plant or a pothos is the real "impossible to kill" starter, but even then you gotta leave it alone and not overwater it.

Your buddy is a legend for that Nextdoor post lmao. The spider in the soil is the real nightmare, I would have burned the whole apartment down. I got a snake plant from Home Depot for like 12 bucks three years ago and it's still alive even though I forget to water it for months at a time. Plus no bugs, no drama, just sits there looking green. Those $50 pot setups are definitely a flex though, you're paying for the instagram aesthetic not the plant at that point.
