Warning: you might be forgetting to file your annual report on time

I almost missed my state's deadline last month because I assumed the Secretary of State would send a reminder. Turns out, they don't always do that, and the late fee is $125 plus a reinstatement headache. I talked to three other business owners at a local meetup who all got hit with the same thing. Check your filing date right now and set your own calendar alert, not theirs. Has anyone else gotten burned by this?

@quinn341 are you serious, $200 for a late fee? That's insane. I thought the $125 I got hit with was bad enough, but $200 is straight up robbery for forgetting to click a button on time.

Right?! My LLC got hit with $175, same shock. Totally ridiculous.

Yeah, I got nailed with a $200 late fee two years ago on my LLC because I figured the state would at least send a postcard. Nope. Now I set a recurring reminder in my phone for 30 days before the due date and another one a week before. Also worth checking if your state lets you file online because mine charges extra for paper filings and takes forever to process them.
