PSA: Low-hydrogen rods cleared up my weld porosity on a boiler job

I was always getting tiny holes in my welds on boiler steel, and it drove me nuts. A guy at the supply house told me to try low-hydrogen rods instead of my usual ones. I switched, and sure enough, the welds came out smooth with no porosity. It turns out the moisture in regular rods can cause that when welding thick plates. I had no idea something so simple could make such a big difference. Now I'm curious, what other small changes have a huge impact on weld quality? Especially for pressure vessels where every bit counts. I'd love to hear what tricks you all use.

I finally cooked pulled pork in my air fryer, and the time investment shocked me.

I prepared a pork shoulder for the air fryer yesterday. The cooking process took over four hours, but the meat came out really juicy. What other dishes have you all found that require a similar level of patience in the air fryer?

Honestly that torch method gets a bad rap for no good reason. People act like holding a flame near leather is instant ruin, but it's all about control and common sense. A hair dryer just doesn't get hot enough or focused enough to really work the tough spots. You can carefully warm exactly where you need it to give way, which is way more precise. Tbh most of the fear comes from folks who've never actually tried it properly. A quick, careful pass beats sweating over a hair dryer for twenty minutes any day.
