Rant: wasted $200 on a nonprofit event planning course that taught me nothing

I signed up for this online course about event planning for charities because I thought it would help me land gigs. It cost me $200 and it was just basic tips like 'send thank you emails' and 'arrive early.' I want to know if anyone else has paid for a training that was totally useless and regretted it. Should I stick to free YouTube videos instead or is there actually a good paid resource out there?

My buddy Mark spent $150 on a "grant writing masterclass" for nonprofits and all they taught was how to format a letter. He said the instructor literally read slides for 4 hours and called it a day. He ended up learning more from a free 20 minute YouTube video from a guy named Tom who actually writes grants for a living. Honestly, that's the last time he pays for anything like that without checking reviews first.

Man I read something last week about how a lot of these "masterclasses" are just recycled slides from basic workshops. Sad how many people get burned before they find the real free stuff online.
