Green PC builds: energy savings or less trash?

Some builders push for power-efficient new parts to lower bills. Others say reusing old gear cuts down on junk piling up. Which way makes more sense to you?

My cousin's gaming rig from 2015 still runs today, but it sucks power like a vacuum cleaner. I keep hearing about these new PSU ratings and low-wattage CPUs, but then I see all the e-waste piling up at the recycling center. It's like we're chasing smaller bills while ignoring the mountain of circuit boards in landfills. So my question is, has anyone actually done the math on the break-even point? When does saving electricity finally cancel out the trash from an upgrade?

I love the idea of someone actually making a spreadsheet for this while their cousin's PC sounds like a jet engine. The break-even point is probably right after you finally give up and just look at the landfill.

My grandma's microwave is from like 1987 and just will not die. It's kinda wild.

What if that old power hog is creating more trash through pollution? The coal burned for its juice might outweigh the landfill from one new, way more efficient part.
