Yeah I was the same way, thought the pre-applied stuff was always enough. Built my old PC without adding any extra paste, just used the cooler's default blob. Temps were always kinda high and loud, hit like 88C under load. Seeing stories like Olivia's totally flipped my view, now I always add a fresh pea-sized drop. It's just not worth the risk for a five dollar tube.

Good grief, I watched my cousin make that exact same mistake last month. He put together a Ryzen 5 5600X without any paste, just the stock cooler. The system booted, but idle temps hit 95C before he panicked and shut it off. He almost fried his CPU being impatient.
