The Tuesday I turned down $300 and it paid off by Friday in Austin

Last month a guy in Austin offered me $300 flat for a landing page I normally quote at $800. I said no thanks, and he got snippy, called me greedy. Then two days later a referral came in from a past client who heard I held my ground, and that job paid $1,200. I think that one refusal saved me from a whole pattern of lowball work. Has anyone else had a rejection that somehow brought in better pay later?

Man, that story hits on something I see all the time. When you set a clear line, people treat it as a signal about how you value yourself. It's like in normal life, if you let someone cut in front of you at the store, they'll keep pushing. But if you politely hold your ground, they suddenly respect you more. Same with pricing. The cheap client was testing you, and you passed by not caving. That referral probably heard about it and thought, "This person knows their worth, I want that." It's a small world, and word gets around fast about who folds and who doesn't.
