Rant: My old wooden desk beats any standing desk I've tried
Met a guy at a coworking space in Austin who swore his $800 motorized desk saved his back. I asked him what he did before standing desks and he just shrugged, then bought a better chair.

That "bought a better chair" part is the real kicker. I spent years thinking my cheap chair was fine until my back started locking up, so I finally got a good mesh chair with lumbar support. Now I only stand when I'm on long calls or after lunch when I feel that slump coming on. A decent chair and a footrest will do more for your back than any fancy motorized desk, trust me on that.

And honestly, once you fix your chair, the whole standing desk thing kind of falls into place. You're not leaning on it to escape a bad seat, you're just using it when your body actually needs a change. I got a footrest that tilts and it's made a bigger difference than I expected. Keeps my hips at the right angle so I'm not slouching forward even when I'm sitting.

Oh man, that tilting footrest thing is interesting. Does it actually help keep your hips from sagging or is it more of a subtle thing you only notice after a few hours?
