Remember my friend whose sketchbook looked like a total disaster?

Hold on, was it the kind of mess where you can't even tell what the drawings are anymore? I heard about sketchbooks with coffee stains, but actual rips and glue everywhere? How does anyone work like that? Doesn't it just show they're really using the thing instead of worrying about how it looks? Sometimes the biggest mess leads to the best ideas, right?

Last semester, Jay's painting portfolio was such a mess we duct-taped it shut.

Totally get that! I used to think everything had to be perfect and clean. Seeing how creative people actually work totally flipped my view on messy sketchbooks, it's all part of the process!

A friend's sketchbook was so messy, it made @west.susan's duct-tape story look clean. All that junk helped her come up with great art later.

Art school pushed the idea of flawless sketchbooks. Seeing a working artist's coffee-stained pages completely changed my view.

My 2019 sketchbook's mess helped me stop comparing and improved my ideas.
