Warning: wasted $250 on a fancy mileage tracker app

I signed up for MileageIQ last month cause I thought it'd save me time tracking drives for deductions. Turns out it double-counted like half my trips and I had to redo everything manually anyway. Called support and they basically said 'whoops' with no refund. Stick to a simple spreadsheet or a free app folks.

Ugh seriously @parker_webb that's the thing - they just blamed it on "GPS inconsistencies" but wouldn't say if other people reported it. I get being careful with money but maybe the app just isn't for people who make a lot of short stops? Spreadsheets are free and if you mess up it's your own fault not some overpriced app's.

The $250 price tag is exactly why I asked. Did they at least give you a reason why it double-counted trips? I mean was it a glitch with the GPS or did it just not understand when you stopped for gas or something? That kind of failure is a deal breaker for a paid app. I've been burned by similar garbage software before, so I know the frustration. Just curious if they admitted it was a known bug or if they tried to blame it on your phone.

...and that reminds me of the time I paid for some app that was supposed to track my dog's walks, you know, like a Fitbit for dogs? It double-counted every time we stopped at a fire hydrant, which was like 50 times a walk. The support people just said "the GPS needs clear sky views" like my dog wasn't outside the whole time. I get that it's a different kind of tracking, but it's the same old story with these apps - they sell you a dream and then blame your phone or your route when it doesn't work. At least with spreadsheets you can't argue with your own handwriting, even if it's ugly.
