My old filing cabinet finally jammed shut with 3 years of receipts inside
Had to take an angle grinder to it last Saturday to get my 2021 deduction records out for an audit. Has anyone else had a physical storage system fail at the worst possible time?

dude that sucks. i had a similar thing happen with a shoebox full of business receipts from 2019. ended up taking a crowbar to a desk drawer. nothing worse than scrambling for paper records when you're already stressed about an audit. digital is the way to go now for sure.

Paper trails have saved me MORE than once when tech failed me.

and laura_wilson you KNOW i feel this one. i've had digital files corrupt on me at the WORST moments and then i'm left digging through a pile of papers like some detective in a bad movie. paper trails are like that one friend who always shows up late but saves the day anyway even if it takes a crowbar to get to them. honestly at this point i keep a backup of my backup and then PRINT copies just to be safe. digital is fine until it's NOT and then you're praying to the tech gods for a miracle.
