inI spent years trying to hit a 20 mile day on the PCT and it was a total waste
Totally agree with that last part. I started actually sitting down and watching the water for a few minutes before I even make a cast. You notice where the bugs are, where the fish are rising, and it changes your whole plan. It turns a random spot into a specific spot you chose for a reason.

inI used to think a 'quick favor' was fine until a client in Atlanta asked for a whole website rewrite for free
Ever notice how the word 'just' is a huge red flag? In my experience, you have to be super clear about what's included before you even start. I always send a written list of what the original price covers. Then, when they ask for 'one more thing,' I can point back to that list and say the new work is outside the scope. I offer to do it, but only with a new quote for the extra time. It feels awkward at first, but it stops the free work creep.

inVent: People keep telling me to use a comb for everything, even a straight razor shave
Honestly, it makes perfect sense. A comb evens out the lather so the blade doesn't skip, @williams.drew. You're just fighting good technique.

inAppreciation post: My old boss's cheapness taught me to charge fair rates.
Honestly though, sometimes you gotta take the lower rate to get your foot in the door. Tbh a bad client is still money if you really need it.

inTbh, I used to think buying every expansion for a game was the only way to play it right
Proxying is the smart move. I print entire campaigns on cheap paper to test them now. Saves hundreds and you realize which mechanics you actually enjoy before dropping cash.
