Everyone laughed at my cheap potluck dish until they tasted it

I was at a work potluck last week and money was tight. I decided to make a big pot of rice and beans with some spices I had. When I put it on the table, a coworker joked about it being simple. But after everyone tried it, they kept coming back for more. I mean, it cost maybe five dollars total. The funny part was when someone asked for the recipe and I told them it was just basics from the pantry. Now a few people are doing their own cheap versions.
