Spent 4 hours yesterday trying to get a 0.0005 tolerance on a 4140 part because my coolant concentration was off by 2 percent.

Mixing in a separate bucket first... that's smart. It reminds me of this old timer I used to work with on a farm. He was nuts about his tractor's radiator fluid. Would mix the antifreeze in a five gallon pail with distilled water, test it with one of those floating ball testers, then pour it in. Said city water left a film that messed with the heat exchange over time. Never knew if he was right, but he never had an overheated engine.

Shoutout to my old client in Austin who forced me to try time blocking

Yeah that upfront work always feels like a waste of time until you're three weeks in and nobody is asking for a total redo. I had a boss who made us write a one page summary of every project before we could even open Photoshop. Hated it at first, but it killed all the "I thought it would be different" talks later. Turns out forcing everyone to agree on the destination before you start driving saves a ton of gas.

Showerthought: I hit 500 posts on this forum and it felt weird

Saw a tweet once where someone called forum post counts "digital dust" we leave behind. Kinda stuck with me. Makes you wonder what all that typing adds up to, right?

My wife told me my arrangements looked 'too safe' and it stung.

So "safe" is the product now? @dylanwells, did that risk-taking actually pay off for your work, or did it just feel better?

Just found out my 'standard' non-compete clause is basically unenforceable in my state

Yeah the "scary paragraph" thing is real but sometimes I wonder if it's even worth fighting to remove it. Like @the_thomas said, a lot of this stuff is just there to scare you. I've signed contracts with those clauses for gigs that only lasted a few weeks. The client probably forgot I existed a month later. Getting a lawyer to review every single freelance contract would cost more than the job sometimes. It feels like they just copy and paste the same scary legal stuff to see who actually pays attention.
