Dropped $35 on an air fryer cookbook and it was useless for my 4 quart basket
Bought a 200 page air fryer cookbook at a Barnes and Noble in Cincinnati about 6 weeks ago. Every single recipe was written for a 5.8 quart basket and I only have a 4 quart one from a garage sale. Tried the crispy chickpeas first and they came out burnt on top and raw in the middle. Then the chicken thighs needed 22 minutes but my basket can only fit two at a time. Most of the book is just oven recipes with the temp bumped up 25 degrees and the time cut in half. Wasted the money and two dinners before I figured it out. Anyone got a recipe blog or YouTube channel that actually lists basket size with the cook times?
Books like that are a good reminder that most stuff sold as a "one size fits all" answer never really is. Same thing happens with slow cooker books written for a 6 quart when you have a 3 quart, or recipe cards that never say what size pan to use. The food burns or undercooks and you blame yourself when the truth is the book left out the one number that mattered. Basket size, pan size, oven temp that actually runs hot or cold, these details change everything and yet they get skipped. Your chickpeas were never going to work at a 5.8 quart time in a 4 quart basket, that is just math, not a cooking fail on your part.
