I used to think the 'three episode rule' was just gatekeeping nonsense

For years, I'd drop a show if the first episode didn't grab me, thinking that was enough. Then I tried it with 'Vinland Saga', which felt slow at the start. By episode three, the entire tone and direction shifted in a way that completely hooked me. What other shows have a payoff that makes the slow start worth it?

Remember when everyone said to stick with "Steins;Gate"? The first half felt like a bunch of nerds messing around with a microwave, and then it just flips everything on its head. Makes you wonder how many great shows get dropped too early.

What other shows pull that kind of switch, @nancyramirez?

Yeah, the "nerds with a microwave" phase is the real test. Nancyramirez is right, you gotta push through that slow burn sometimes. Shows that build a world properly often hit the hardest later on.
