My whole anime watch group fell apart over a single filler arc

We had a solid crew of six people meeting every Sunday in Denver for two years, but the Naruto 'Land of Tea' filler arc killed it. After three weeks of that slow story, two people just stopped showing up without a word. Has anyone else had a group break up over something so small?

Was it really just the filler arc?

Honestly, that "grind wears people down" line hits hard. Tbh with my group, it wasn't just the filler itself. It was the combo of boring episodes plus everyone's real life getting busy. We switched to just watching the canon stuff together and saved the filler for anyone who wanted to solo it later. That kept us from falling apart. Letting people opt out without guilt was the real fix.

Filler arcs are the ultimate friendship test, and many groups fail it. My own crew nearly mutinied over some drawn-out Bleach beach episodes. Sometimes the grind just wears people down.
