Rolled my eyes when a buddy swore by the 3 episode rule for judging new anime, but after dropping shows after one episode for years I finally gave it a real shot.

I gave Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood a solid three episodes last month even though the first one felt slow and now I'm 40 episodes deep and can't stop - has anyone else had a show totally flip for them after a few episodes?

Oh man, the three episode rule is actually legit! I used to be the same way where I'd drop stuff after one episode if it didn't grab me right away. But I gave SteinsGate a shot based on a friend yelling at me about it for weeks and the first few episodes were so slow I almost quit. Then around episode 4 or 5 it just clicked and now it's literally my top show of all time. So for you with Full Metal, was it the characters that finally hooked you or did something specific happen in that third episode that made you want to keep going? I'm always curious what the tipping point is for people because it's different for everyone.

SteinsGate was boring for three episodes then became my favorite anime ever.

Did you stick with it because of the characters or the plot twist?
