I finally tried the carbon brush swap over a new motor
After three failed spin cycles on an old Whirlpool in a duplex I manage, the $14 brush kit fixed the dryer in forty minutes, and now I'm wondering how many other units I've replaced parts on too early, anyone else make that switch?

Brushes first on any old Whirlpool, motors are rarely dead.
