That $200 chipper blade I sharpened myself instead of buying new
Spent 4 hours grinding and balancing a dull blade only to have it chip on the second tree. Has anyone else tried sharpening their own blades and just ended up wasting a Saturday?

Spent 4 hours grinding and balancing" - man, I feel your pain right in my wallet. My first attempt at sharpening a mower blade ended with me launching it across the yard because I got it balanced wrong. Then I spent the next hour looking for it in the bushes. Honestly, after that disaster I just started paying the local shop $15 to do it and calling it a day. Sometimes the cheaper option ends up costing you more in time and frustration, you know?

Oh man, I did the exact same thing with a planer blade set last fall. Spent my whole Saturday getting them shimmied just right and by the third board it sounded like a bag of rocks going through. Did you at least get some use out of the tree before it went bad?

That 'cheaper option ends up costing you more' line really hits home. I used to think sharpening my own tools was the only way to save money, but after ruining a good chisel set trying to save 20 bucks I finally gave in. Now I just pay the pro down the street, my time is worth more than the headache.
