My old Celestron 8-inch does fine with the cheap UHC filter. That guy is just trying to justify his own gear.

I used to think that way too, but seeing the Veil Nebula through a higher-end filter really changed my mind.

Is it just me or does every hobby have that one guy who thinks spending more equals better? @ray562's got the right idea, the cheaper UHC filter does the job for most of us regular folks. I've seen it with my neighbor who insisted on a $600 espresso machine when his $200 one was just fine, same pattern. Sometimes people just need to justify their own big purchases by telling everyone else they need the same.
