Rant: I used to trust those big chain auto repair shops for everything
Back in 2022 I took my Honda to a Firestone near Buckhead for a simple oil change and they tried to sell me $600 worth of flushes and belts I didn't need. Now I go to a little shop off Memorial Drive run by a guy named Carlos and he charges $45 flat for the same job with no pushy upsells. Has anyone else ditched the chain shops for a local mechanic and seen a big difference?

I'm gonna play devil's advocate here and say the chain shops have actually saved my butt a few times lol. Yeah they tried the upsell on me too @abbyf79 but when my transmission started slipping on a Sunday they were the only ones open and had a warranty that covered the rebuild two years later. I think local guys can be great but they don't always have the same resources or backup when something goes wrong down the road.

Read a Consumer Reports article saying chains push unnecessary repairs 40% of the time.
