Finally hit 500 connections on LinkedIn and it feels hollow
Been networking in Atlanta for about 8 years now. I remember when I was excited to hit 100 connections. Now I'm at 501 and I realized I only actually talk to maybe 15 of them regularly. The rest are just names from a conference or someone I met once. Has anyone else found that smaller groups of real contacts beat a big number on paper?

Aren't most LinkedIn connections really just acquaintances with benefits?

Did you get a handshake out of it at least?

Acquaintances with benefits is a pretty funny way to put it, but it kind of hits the nail on the head. I mean, how many of those people would actually pick up the phone if you called them for a real favor, like a job lead or an intro? The handshake thing got me thinking, do you actually count someone as a real connection if you've never done something beyond a like or a comment, like a real favor or a shared project?
