Lost the trail in Big Sur because I trusted GPS over my map

I was hiking the Pine Ridge Trail last April, phone died at 4pm, and what should have been a 6 hour loop turned into an 11 hour bushwhack through poison oak because I never bothered to look at the paper map until it was too late, has anyone else had a GPS fail that taught you a lesson?

Gotta push back on that a little, @drews55 is right that GPS can burn you, but my phone has saved my tail way more times than a paper map ever has. Paper maps get wet, rip, and you still have to know how to read them right, which plenty of folks don't.
