Just read that a single mature oak tree can drop over 10,000 acorns in a year.

Found that in a local nature guide and now I'm looking at the mess under my tree differently. Anyone have a good way to clean them up without breaking my back?

Honestly, calling it a mess makes me a little sad. All those acorns are a whole ecosystem. The squirrels and jays rely on them, and the ones that sprout are future trees. I just leave them be.

Is it really that deep though? I mean, I get what you're saying about the ecosystem, but a handful of acorns turning into trees isn't really a whole forest situation. Your mileage may vary, but in my experience, most of those acorns just rot or get eaten by a few animals that would find food somewhere else anyway. It's more like a small buffet than a full-on ecosystem.
