My sourdough starter took a full month to get right

I followed a guide that said it would be ready in 7 days. Mine just sat there, flat and sad, for over two weeks. I tried different flours, different water, even moved it to a warmer spot in my kitchen. Finally, after about 30 days total, it just woke up and doubled in size. I was feeding it every single day that whole time. Anyone else have a starter that took forever to get going?

Honestly, that timeline sounds about right for a stubborn one. I had a similar thing happen with a rye starter a few years back. It just decided to work on its own schedule, you know?

Ever notice how some things just refuse to be rushed?
