Had to decide between a $200 clipper and a $60 one for my shop

I went with the cheaper Wahl model after my old one finally died mid-haircut last Tuesday, and honestly it's been cutting just as clean after I adjusted the blade gap. Anyone else find the expensive ones aren't always worth the hype?

Wait, did you say you adjusted the blade gap yourself? I tried that once on my old $40 Andis and ended up with a bald spot on my own head that took forever to grow back. My buddy swears by the expensive Oster clippers he got for his barbershop, but he's always complaining about the motor overheating after three cuts. Meanwhile I've been using the same $50 Wahl from Target for like four years now and it's still chugging along. I figure if it ain't broke, don't fix it, you know? The marketing people got me good a few times before I wised up.

Keep the blade gap the same by just tightening the screws evenly a little at a time, and test it on some cardboard first before touching your head. That Wahl you got from Target is a workhorse because it has a simple magnetic motor that doesn't overheat like the fancy ones do. Have you ever just oiled the blades after every use or do you wing it like most people?

My cousin actually tested that Target Wahl against a $300 Babyliss on a mannequin head once and the cheap one actually cut cleaner because the magnetic motor doesn't vibrate as much. Nobody talks about how the fancy rotaries can actually mess up your fade if your hand isn't super steady.
