Pro tip: My old way of cleaning clippers was a total mess

I used to just spray them with Barbicide and wipe them down, which left gunk in the blades. After a client in Denver last year pointed out some hair stuck in mine, I switched to a full disassembly and ultrasonic cleaner. Now I take them apart every Friday, and it takes about 15 minutes. Anyone else have a better cleaning routine they swear by?

Okay, "full disassembly every Friday" sounds like a level of adulting I have not reached. I respect it, but my own cleaning story is a cautionary tale. I tried an ultrasonic cleaner for my coffee machine parts and got overconfident, thinking it could handle anything. I put a fancy pen in there, the kind with a rubberized grip. It completely dissolved the grip into a weird sticky goo that fused the parts together. So now I'm scared of those cleaners for anything that isn't basically solid metal.

Feel your pain on the ultrasonic cleaner. I did the same thing with a pair of glasses that had little rubber nose pads. They just melted off into this gross sludge that got into the hinges. Totally ruined them. Now I just use mine for keys and maybe some jewelry, but I'm super paranoid about it. Those things are way more powerful than they look.

Tell you what, that sludge is the worst. It gets into every tiny space and just sets like glue. Learned my lesson trying to clean an old watch with a leather band, the thing just fell apart in there. Makes you wonder what the heck is in the cleaner fluid that eats through stuff like that. Now I check the material of every single little part before anything goes near the tank. It turned a handy tool into something I'm almost afraid to use.
