Spent $60 on a high-end clipper blade and it burned me bad

I bought a fancy ceramic blade online thinking it would last forever on my thick hair clients. First four haircuts and it started chipping on me. Anyone else had bad luck with ceramic vs steel blades?

Gotta disagree with you @finley_smith, my experience with ceramic has been solid. Been using a mid-range ceramic blade on thick hair for months with zero chipping issues, just gotta keep the tension right. Maybe it's a brand thing, but I'd try another ceramic before writing them off completely.

Exactly. Tension is everything with ceramic. I started using a cheap ceramic blade and it chipped first cut, thought they were all junk. Then a buddy told me to loosen up the tension bar. Night and day difference. Had the same blade for 8 months now, no chips, zips right through thick wet hair. Steel is great but I like how ceramic stays sharp longer.

Same thing happened to me with a top brand ceramic blade. Paid $70 and it chipped on the third haircut, totally useless for thick hair. I switched back to steel after that and never looked back.
