Rant: Dropped $150 on a contract template pack that nearly cost me a client
The terms were so aggressive they balked at the first page. Anyone have a good, fair template for freelance design work?

Ugh, that's the worst. Those overly strict templates treat every client like an enemy. You really need something balanced that protects you without scaring them off. I found a simple one from the AIGA that works as a great starting point.

Yeah, I had to rewrite mine from scratch after a bad scare too.

Honestly though, is a scary contract REALLY that big a deal? Most clients just skim it and sign. That first page might have had some standard stuff about killing the project if they don't pay. It's just there to cover you. Maybe they were just looking for a reason to back out anyway.
