inMy chocolate souffle turned into a soggy pancake last night
Kind of like life really, one little wiggle and everything caves.

inI used to think canned beans were just as good as dried, then I did the math last month
Ha! Classic move. Soaking beans is basically a test of character and the number one reason people go back to cans. You either become a bean prep master or you end up calling for takeout while staring at a bag of crunchy betrayal. I respect the dedication to the system though, if you can remember to set that alarm, the savings are real. Just don't forget to actually LOOK at what the alarm is for when it goes off or you'll be eating takeout again wondering how a bag of rocks ended up in your sink.

inFinally gave in and tried the automatic taper after swearing by hand tools for 8 years
Still had to hand finish every corner" - that used to be my exact argument against buying one. I was the guy who thought real drywallers only used knives and pans. But man, after trying it on a 1500 square foot basement job, I changed my tune fast. Those flats you used to spend forever on? Done in half the time. Yeah, the corners still need a hand knife, but for me the trade off was worth it. You just gotta accept the tool has limits and move on.

inBurned my third batch of cookies until I found the oven rack trick
Wait so was the rack in the middle or lower when you were burning the bottoms? Ive got a small electric oven too and I swear it runs hot on the bottom no matter what. I moved my rack to the top third like your friend said and it helped but I still get weird hot spots sometimes. Have you tried rotating the pan halfway through? Thats what finally got mine consistent but its annoying to babysit them. My oven is a Frigidaire not a Whirlpool so maybe its just all small electric ovens acting up.

inShoutout to the old shop teacher who called me out on my torque wrench habit
Did you ever catch yourself doing it the wrong way after he told you? I had a similar thing with an old machinist who told me to never store my dial calipers clamped down tight. Made me realize how many small habits we pick up without thinking.
