Finally tracked down why my electric bill was creeping up for months
Turns out my ancient fridge was pulling an extra $30 a month for over a year before I swapped it out, has anyone else discovered a hidden energy hog way later than they should have?

I used to think keeping old appliances running was the thrifty thing to do. My parents always said "they don't make them like they used to" so I held onto a refrigerator from the early 2000s for way too long. Then my nephew showed me how much power it was drawing with a little meter he brought over. It was costing me almost $40 a month compared to a newer model. That changed my mind completely. Now I actually check the energy guide stickers before I buy anything.

Did you keep the old fridge plugged in while you checked the meter?
